Waste Around Our School

Image
Today Room 4 picked up rubbish around our school. We discovered there was a lot of plastic, paper, foil, and cardboard rubbish around the Junior playground and on the field. If we didn't pick it up it might blow out to sea and hurt sea creatures. Our school is also home to birds and insects and rubbish isn't good for them either. We sorted the waste into groups on a graph. The graph showed us that we have way too much foil and plastic rubbish. Sadly the plastic and foil wrappers are coming from us humans. They come from the food in our lunchboxes because the factories wrap all the food in plastic and foil and then we buy it from the supermarket. When we don't put the wrappers in the rubbish it is called littering. What can we do at PBS and at home to help fix this problem?

Crazy Shoe Fashion Show

Room 4 designed and constructed some crazy shoes as part of our Technology Inquiry. We wanted to show them off on the cat walk. Thanks Room 2 for coming along and modelling some of our wacky shoes and being a great audience. Which shoes are your favourite? Where would you wear them?

Moon Inquiry Groups

We had a couple of different Moon projects taking place in Room 4 this term. They showed great team work and focus. Well done teaching the class the different Moon phases. Now we can watch out for them in the night sky during the month: new moon, waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, full moon, waning gibbous, last quarter, and waning crescent.

Stars Inquiry Group

The Star Inquiry group were amazed to learn about our star the sun and the many other stars out there in our Milky Way galaxy. Our class loved learning about different constellations that you can see at night in the Southern Hemisphere, such as The Southern Cross, Scorpius or Maui's Hook, Matariki, and Orion. Thanks for sharing your learning.

Mars Rover - Exploration Inquiry Group

The crew of the Exploration Inquiry group wanted to explore space. They decided to make a Mars Rover. They tested it in different terrains and were very happy when the wheels rolled.

Solar System - Inquiry Group

Here are photos of the 3D Solar System Inquiry groups working together to create their 3D solar systems. They wrote their own project instructions, carried them out, and presented their project in front of the class.

Our Solar System Demonstrations

Alien Slime

Room 4 made Alien Slime. We had to read our slime recipe in our group. We practised our measuring skills. We had fun adding ingredients and stirring and squishing until it turned into gooey slime.

The Relationship between the Earth, Moon, and Sun

We demonstrated our learning about how the Moon orbits the Earth and how together they both travel around the sun. We learned that the Moon takes 29 days to travel around the Earth which is nearly a month, and the Earth takes 365 days to orbit the Sun, which is one whole year! It's great to be learning from each other as well as from what we read in books.

Positive Relationship Soup

Our Term 1 Inquiry was all about: Building Positive Relationships. What a great way to start the year by learning to listen and respect each other.  The students demonstrated what we've learned by making this fun movie to show all the ingredients that go into positive relationships. Well done Room 4. Enjoy the watching the movie at home with your friends and family.
